About

As a much-loved theater clown performing worldwide, Joel Baker brings to the stage a unique style of physical comedy, acrobatics, and improvisation. He is a graduate of San Francisco’s Clown Conservatory and the San Francisco Circus Center, where he began incorporating acrobatics, handstands, and chair balancing into physical comedy. Now regarded as one of the best comedic animators for festivals, cabarets, theaters, and corporate events, Joel launched his career as an acrobatic clown in San Francisco’s legendary New Pickle Circus. During the winter seasons performing in PALAZZO dinner-shows throughout Germany and Austria, Joel plays the classic Bellhop who can’t stay out of trouble, making the most mundane moments irresistibly funny. Recent engagements include the lead character role in CIRKOPOLIS by Cirque Eloize and in ALIS by Italy’s Le Cirque with the World’s Top Performers. For over six years, Joel was a key performer—and additionally served as an Artistic Coach—in the award-winning Cirque du Soleil show The Beatles’ LOVE on the Las Vegas Strip. Joel has also performed main clown roles in SOAP (Chamaeleon Theatre Berlin) and LOFT by Les 7 Doigts de la Main (7 Fingers). He directed Circus Bella’s show OUT OF LINE, sharing family-friendly circus with the Bay Area community. Other directorial collaborations include the Nevada Ballet Choreographer’s Showcase. In the past few years, Joel has had the honor of teaming up with Clowns Without Borders Ireland and Belgium to bring laughter to children in Europe’s refugee camps. Joel has appeared on the national television shows “America’s Got Talent”, “The View”, and “The Night that Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles” and has performed under the direction of James Cameron in the film Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away 3D.
