Partnering on the Chinese Pole - Circus Events - CircusTalk
When: Aug 17-18, 2019
Cost: $220 ($200 early bird registration before July 26)
Instructors: Jenna Ciotta & Claire Horner-Richardson
Age: 16 & up or by permission
Schedule: Sat & Sun 1:30 pm-5 pm

Join Claire Horner-Richardson and Jenna Ciotta in a workshop that's twice as nice! With these two great coaches, you'll explore ground partnering assisted by the pole, reciprocal partnering skills (skills that require weight and space sharing), and more traditional base/flyer partnering (where one person is lifted and the other is doing the heavy lifting). Some of these skills are better suited to same-size partners and others are better suited to differently-sized partners. Come partnered or come solo—either way, we’ll explore all these skills with different partners throughout the weekend. This is a great way to mix up your training on the pole and develop new vocabulary.

Looking for more? Pair this workshop with Dynamic Progressions and Sequencing on Rope, running each day from 9 am-12:30 pm.

About the Instructors:
Jenna is a circus artist specializing in lyra, dance pole and acrobatics. She found circus arts after completing her BA degree in Gender Studies. Having danced all of her life, circus offered a new and exciting creative outlet for personal expression through movement. Jenna began her training in Phoenix, Arizona and continued in London, England for a year while completing her MA in Human Rights. She now lives in Brattleboro, VT where she trains at the New England Center for Circus Arts and coaches around Vermont and Massachusetts. She was the winner of the 2016 National Aerial Pole Art Championships in the doubles category. She has enjoyed spending her years in Vermont learning Chinese Pole and translating her dance pole vocabulary to this apparatus as a soloist and duo partner.

Coming from the woods of the Northeast, Claire is a dancer and circus artist who identifies as non-binary, using they/them pronouns, and specializes in Chinese Pole. Claire's background is in Dance, having training in Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance from the age of six. That life-long training and performance experience was a great foundation for them to transition to circus several years ago as a new mode of creative expression and physical exploration. They quickly found Chinese Pole as their new passion. Through dance and circus they have had the opportunity to train and perform internationally. Last year they placed Second in their category at the 2nd Annual Viva Fest, Los Vegas, and toured with Flynn Creek Circus in the summer of 2018 performing Duo Chinese Pole. Claire currently lives in VT where they train and coach at New England Center for Circus Arts.
