The Sisterhood of the Ring expired Free |
Professor Vanessa Toulmin will host this spectacular event which will look at the role of race and gender in the circus. The discussion will focus on the rise of contemporary circus art and the cross fertilisation of performance genres which highlight women in circus and performers from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds. A starting point for Professor Toulmin’s analysis is the extraordinary image of Miss La La at the Cirque Fernando painted by Edgar Degas in 1879 and how visibility of women from diverse backgrounds has changed. There will be performances from contemporary female performers throughout the evening.
