In this workshop for high intermediate rope artists, we will cover two main areas: Dynamics and C Shaping. Learn new beat pathways or strengthen your basics as we work towards semi and full release moves like J flips, pirouettes, and 360s. Prepare to defy gravity and learn tools to roll up and down the rope with as many different C shaping drills as we can fit into your brain. And to round it all off, get ready to build strength and a more nuanced understanding of your body in the air as we condition for rope-specific strength! With 40 foot ceilings and a foam pit, what better way to end your 2022?! PREREQS: Have a current and regular rope practice, be comfortable doing beats, be able to do multiple inversions cleanly through short- and long-arm hangs, and be able to do two pull-ups on the rope. Ages 16+. WHEN: Dec. 29-30 WHERE: Trapezium 10 Town Crier Dr. Brattleboro, VT 05346 COST: $350 REGISTER: https://go.asapconnected.com/?org=4979#EventID=2280166 MORE INFO: https://necenterforcircusarts.org/about/weekend-immersion-rope/ —— VERTICAL DANCE w/ Nimble Arts A unique workshop where we dance on the walls and change the rules of gravity! Using harnesses and rope tools from rock climbers and arborists, you’ll learn the grace and weightlessness available when we turn the world on its side. This workshop is excellent for any movers curious to dance and tumble with a weightlessness that allows for softer impacts and a more gentle way of flipping and flying. PREREQS: None! Ages 16+. WHEN: Jan. 27-29 WHERE: Cotton Mill Main Studio 74 Cotton Mill Hill, A-330 Brattleboro, VT 05301 COST: $400 REGISTER: https://go.asapconnected.com/?org=4979#EventID=2227352 MORE INFO: https://necenterforcircusarts.org/about/weekend-immersion-vertical-dance-w-nimble-arts/ —— CIRCUS STORYTELLING w/ Stephanie Abrams Find the layers of expression and storytelling that elevate your circus performance into something unforgettable. This workshop is designed to help experienced circus artists dive into theatrical work and learn to use their skills to tell complex and narrative stories on stage. Participants will explore mime and physical theatre and apply those techniques directly into their work in their chosen focus discipline. Come with skills, ideas, and a desire to perform - you do not need to have an act in progress. All disciplines welcome! PREREQS: Students should be working at a high intermediate or advanced level in their focus discipline. You must be proficient in your focus discipline - capable of warming up, training on your own, and performing 4–5 minutes of material in sequence a few times a day. It doesn't have to be complicated with crazy skills (the ceiling is 15' hight)—just something with a series of sequences that you can run a few times in the workshop. Please indicate when you register what discipline you'd like to focus on in the workshop. WHEN: Jan. 28-29 WHERE: Cotton Mill Studio 74 Cotton Mill Hill Brattleboro, VT 05301 COST: $375 REGISTER: https://necenterforcircusarts.asapconnected.com/#CourseID=255982 MORE INFO: https://necenterforcircusarts.org/about/weekend-immersion-circus-storytelling/ —— CREATIVE HANDBALANCING w/ Fleeky Flanko You’re working hard at your handstands and are wondering if you might have what you need to put it all together in an act? This workshop is designed to help you continue to start, or continue to develop, a handstand act just for you. You will meet other handbalancers, play, experiment, and perform for and with them. Learn something about yourself and other like-minded individuals that will help you on your path to making a unique and amazing handstand act, either for yourself or for your professional circus career. PREREQS: Intermediate to advanced level students who are comfortable being inverted in a variety of positions, with a regular training practice that includes being able to kick into and hold a 30-second to one-minute handstand (any shape), and be able to do at least one type of press handstand entry (split, straddle, tuck, or pike). Ages 16+. WHEN: Feb. 3-5 WHERE: Cotton Mill Studio 74 Cotton Mill Hill Brattleboro, VT 05301 COST: $350 REGISTER: https://go.asapconnected.com/?org=4979#EventID=2227388 MORE INFO: https://necenterforcircusarts.org/about/weekend-immersion-creative-hand-balancing/ —— TIGHT WIRE w/ Ariele Ebacher Walking the wire can often be a solitary experience, so don't miss this chance to meet, learn, and create with fellow funambulists and work with tight wire dancer and coach, Ariele Ebacher. We will have several wires rigged at various heights so you can try out new things down low and work on perfecting the skills you already have at 4' or 6'. Ariele will lead participants in group warm-ups, solo wire, and some partner work, as well as focusing on theory of balance and problem solving techniques. Most of the weekend will be spent coaching individuals at whatever level they are currently at and guiding them towards the next level. PREREQS: Participants must have a solid foundation and experience on the wire and should be able to cross forward, backward, and turn without falling off the wire. Bring your wire shoes and fans (if you use one)! Ages 16+. WHEN: Feb. 24-26 WHERE: Trapezium COST: $375 REGISTER: https://go.asapconnected.com/?org=4979#EventID=2281129 MORE INFO: https://necenterforcircusarts.org/about/weeekend-immersion-tight-wire/ —— LOW-FLYING TRAPEZE w/ Naomi Ullian The space between floor and bar—how does an acrobat navigate this strange half-gravity expanse? Join us for a weekend laboratory dedicated to orbiting, swinging, spinning, and innovating on that tiny ship called dance trapeze. Students will have the opportunity to learn technique arising from a variety of dance trapeze lineages as well as sequence and create work based in the strange vocabularies of liminal low flying. PREREQS: Basic trapeze experience, including the ability to hang from bar for at least 20 seconds, hold weight in the ropes for at least 10 seconds, invert repeatedly from the ground, do a one-knee hang, and hold a front balance (hands off the bar). Please come with bar-conditioned hands! Ages 16+. WHEN: March 17-19 WHERE: Trapezium COST: $375 REGISTER: https://go.asapconnected.com/?org=4979#CourseID=278620 MORE INFO: https://necenterforcircusarts.org/about/weekend-immersion-low-flying-trapeze/ —— SNEAKY PATHWAYS ON AERIAL FABRIC w/ Chelsea Barrett In this workshop, Chelsea will share her love obsession with aerial fabric through the exploration of crafty pathways and sequences. Utilizing slack drags, kick wraps, hip-hops and fabric theory concepts, we'll find artful transitions into drops, rotations, interesting wraps and shapes, featuring fabric challenges called XOXO's and Hip Key to my Heart. In XOXO's we will focus on split fabric sequences leading to uncommon ways to put on X's, Infinity (or Finite) Rolls and more sneaky surprises! Hip Key to My Heart will delve into hip key theory patterns that are sure to unlock your passion for fabric, with optional spinning sequences. PREREQS: Regular aerial fabric practice and have stamina to stay in the air for five minutes through complicated sequences and invert in the air repeatedly for the duration of the workshop. Please be comfortable working on an unlocked 360, a windmill to both sides, and familiarity with forwards, backwards, and sideways rotations. Ages 18+.
