Circus World Unicyclist Featured on ABC’s “The Gong Show”
Unicyclist Wesley Williams received an abundance of praise following his Saturday performance at Circus World.
The 20-year-old circus veteran jumped rope on a 5-foot unicycle, juggled knives on an even taller one-wheeled vehicle and drew gasps from the audience as he rode a colossal 25-foot unicycle for a lap around the center ring â ducking under wires as he went. But many of the compliments werenât on his big top performance.
âI saw you on TV,â several fans said. âYou should have won â that show is rigged.â
Williams last week was featured on an episode of âThe Gong Show,â ABCâs reboot of the zany talent show that originally premiered in the 1970s. While he didnât win the contest, Williams certainly made an impression on judges Will Arnett, Regina Hall and Tony Hale, along with host Mike Myersâ invented persona, Tommy Maitland.
âI rode the 20-foot unicycle on the Gong Show, and here I ride the 25-foot,â Williams said. âIt actually wouldnât fit in the âGong Showâ studio, so we had to use the smaller one. If you watch the Gong Show, Tony Hale, heâs yelling âDonât hit the lightsâ because I was like 2 feet from hitting the ceiling. There was no safety belt at all over there, which was pretty big.â
