Alberto Cordoba Ramirez is a circus artist from Colombia that specializes in Cyr Wheel, acrodance, and hand-balancing. He began his acrobatic journey at the age of 15, then went on to study at Circo Para Todos. Looking for a more dynamic discipline than hand-balancing, he studied capoeira and contemporary dance. His intense love for movement naturally led him to Cyr wheel. Cordoba is driven by a need to connect with his audience through art.

Currently Cordoba is a member of La Gata Cirko, and has worked for Latino Circus from Dubai and Colombia’s National Theater.

When asked about his favorite performance memory, Cordoba responded with the following:

“My favorite performance memory is the first time I played with fire; I remember being on the beach in Santa Marta, late at night. I didn’t know that much about using a staff, at least not the “circus way,”and I had certainly never been that close to fire. What knowledge I had came from martial arts. So, the staff’s ends came alight and I start swinging it around and suddenly everything and everyone disappeared. I didn’t see or hear anything other than the fire that swung around me…so much so that I even managed to catch on fire a bit and didn’t realize it until someone quickly put it out, or maybe they just pointed it out later and the fire simply subsided on it own, I don’t remember exactly. What I do remember is that was the moment I was sure I wanted to perform, and I wanted to do art for a living.”

A true movement artist that combines his acrodance skills with Cyr wheel flow, he went on to say, “My favorite discipline is acrodance. I think that what I love the most is the feeling of not being tied to anything, to not depend on anything, I love the close relationship that arises with the ground, rooting myself to flow, float, transit through it, transit between air and earth, how all of this is a dance through the space, with the space, moving it as much as it moves me.”
