Cirkuliacija Festival in Lithuania Says “Let’s Meet Online”

The international contemporary circus festival Cirkuliacija is returning to Kaunas, Lithuania this June of 2020 in a new format due to the global pandemic. The fifth edition of the festival is from June 6th to the 14th and boasts a diverse array of artists from various regions (Sweden, Spain, Zimbabwe, and Israel to name a few) and will introduce activities from podcast interviews to virtual creative workshops.
Artistic director Gildas Aleksa says,“We have discussed the situation of the contemporary circus field in Lithuania and we have decided that it is not possible to leave a gap year without raising the artistic qualification or developing new skills.” Instead, he highlighted that the audience will virtually meet the participants of the festival on podcasts and have the opportunity to get to know the companies more closely before seeing the actual performances the following year when the full lineup will be there in-person to perform. He explains how these events will preserve two aspects of the festival this year, education and communication, saying “In these difficult times, let’s try to be together and not forget that circus before anything else is about human relationships.”  ...
