Cirkus Cirkör Appoints New CEO Kajsa Giertz

On February 1, 2023, Kajsa Giertz will take over as the new CEO of Cirkus Cirkör. Giertz most recently comes from Helsingborg’s city theater, where she has been active since 2016.

“In Kajsa Giertz, Cirkus Cirkör gets an extremely experienced and competent CEO. Kajsa not only has many years of experience in leading a performing arts institution, but also a background as a director, choreographer and educator. Her performing arts work implies a strong feeling for the innermost essence of art, and she also has important experience from having worked with children and young people,” says Board Chairman Eva Schöld.

Schöld also adds that “Kajsa Giertz takes over in a very exciting phase for Cirkör, when we are faced with new productions and development opportunities. When Cirkör was started in 1995, it was with the goal of establishing the new circus in Sweden, and putting Sweden on the world map of new circus. Today, those goals have been achieved, and both Cirkör and Swedish New Circus are ready for the next big step forward. We are very happy that Kajsa in particular wants to take that step.”

“I am incredibly happy about the trust to lead Cirkus Cirkör into the future. Cirkör is a unique organization within the Swedish performing arts with its breadth in both performances, educational and event activities. I look forward to working with all these parts and believe that my broad experience as a theater manager, educator, and stage artist will come in handy. As CEO, I will work for continued artistic development, a good working environment and secured funding,” says Giertz.

Kajsa Giertz was the 2016–2022 theater manager at Helsingborgs Stadsteater and worked from 2012–2016 at Västmanland’s theatre. From 2007–2009, she was the artistic director and operations manager at Parkteatern in Stockholm. Before that, Giertz had worked as a director, choreographer, dancer, and artistic director in various artistic activities. She has also been head teacher and pedagogue at i.a. The Royal Swedish Ballet School and the Academy of Dance.

“Already in 2004, I worked together with Tilde Björfors at Cirkus Cirkör as a choreographer in the performance 99% Unknown. Since then, I have initiated several collaborations with both Cirkus Cirkör and other new circus companies and developed a genuine interest in the new circus as an art form. I enjoy working in the longer arc and for me it feels meaningful and important to work with the development and maturity of artistic activities and employees,” concludes Kajsa Giertz.
