Circus Act Comes Out Spinning As Adelaide Fringe Opens

Showtime star Lisa Lottie creates an ever-changing kaleidoscope of coloured patterns in midair using special hula-hoops which contain computer-controlled LED lights.

“That kind of technology is quite new,’’ said Lottie, who divides her time between Melbourne, London and her birthplace in the Netherlands — when she is not on the road performing.

“They can be programmed to change colours and patterns along with the song, on the beat of the music. That looks pretty amazing.’’

Lottie was among the first performers in the world to use the SpinFX Phoenix hoops, which are made in Los Angeles and cost up to $US500 each.

She only began performing at the age of 21, after working at a soap shop in Brighton, England, where a friend asked her to appear in a competition to make a music video for recording artist Fatboy Slim.
