Hull’s Freedom Festival Expands Its Circus Programming This Year

HULL’s international Freedom Festival, on the east coast of England, returns for its 12th year in 2019 with extended programming spanning five days.

The family-centric program that highlights the circus arts, includes multiple events exploring themes relating to human rights.

Presented in public space from August 28th, occupying streets and transforming unusual spaces, this year’s program will also celebrate the city’s heritage whilst encouraging visitors to discover and rediscover a city of unparalleled potential, fueled by humanity.

Mikey Martins, Artistic Director and Joint CEO of Freedom Festival Arts Trust, explains “We believe bold, artistic experiences and festivals are fundamental and a necessary part of our modern society, the kind of artists we work with are brave, innovative and hugely talented and we’re incredibly excited to have expanded the celebrations beyond a weekend to five days of wonder. In 2019 we will expand our indoor program following on from the huge success and feedback from last year’s ticketed program of events. This will allow more people the opportunity to see extraordinary performances by award-winning artists from across the world.”

This year’s indoor programming builds on Hull’s circus history and the growing appetite for acrobatic feats following the much-celebrated performance of Gravity & Other Myths in the Festival Gardens big top in 2018.

While the vast majority of Freedom Festival is free, the five, primarily circus-based,  indoor ticketed shows includes the breathtaking Humans by Circa, the unique UduL by Los Galindos, the hilarious Un Poyo Rojo, and Fidelis Fortibus by award-winning Circus Ronaldo, which sees the return of Danny Ronaldo to Hull.
