NoFit State Comes to Newcastle for Circus Celebration

NoFit State is an award winning Circus now in Newcastle which was founded in 1986 by five friends and is the UK’s leading large-scale contemporary circus company.

Although totally contemporary they still follow the tented touring tradition living together, working together, eating together, laughing and sometimes crying together – travelling in trucks, trailers and caravans and living and breathing as one community.

Over the last six years NoFit State’s touring productions have visited 15 different countries, played to audiences of over 250,000 and been critically acclaimed, winning numerous prestigious international arts awards.

Fresh from a season that saw their previous show on the London Southbank, New York Brooklyn Bridge and Hong Kong they are now in Newcastle as part of the celebrations of circus planned by the New Vic Theatre for 2018. After all, it’s been 250 years since Newcastle-under-Lyme’s famous equestrian and cavalryman Philip Astley created the circus ring and invented the circus form.

As part of Circus250, NoFit State and Firenza Guidi are creating a new show, LEXICON – a daring, seductive and utterly contemporary take on circus. Drawing inspiration from circus history, heritage, and traditions, they dig in the underground of memory and celebrate the past, present and future of circus.
