Running Away to Join the Circus and Finding Out It’s Racist | My Story and Aerial Rope Act About It

Noeli Acobi weighs in on racism in the circus industry, and shares her story about being discriminated against for how she looks. She shares her rope act as well as advice on how to make circus a more equitable industry. She says in her Youtube video, “I ran away to join the circus – a community that is known for welcoming EVERYONE…and found racist hiring practices instead. I am sharing with you my story and experience about racism within the circus industry from a POC perspective. I am also sharing with you my full aerial rope act that was created (September 2019) as a response to those who told me my skin was too dark, my body type is not right, and that I would never become a circus performer.”
