Applause: Latest Funding and Awards Announced

The Flying Fruit Fly Circus has announced the five projects which will be supported through its COVID-19 seed funding initiative Make Our Way Out.

With a singular goal to assist established circus artists to make new work during these challenging of times, Make Our Way Out provides a $2,000 cash grant and access to the company’s Albury-Wodonga training space, apparatus, trainer expertise and accommodation.

There was a strong response to the call-out and Artistic Director, Anni Davey, said: ‘Our facility will be full of artists at all stages of their careers making new contemporary circus, influencing and inspiring the next generation of circus artists with creative energy.’

The five groups supported by the project are:

The Two Donnies – Two clown roadies from Doncaster! A physical theatre clown show by Nicci Wilks and Emilie Bloom.
Get Well Circus – A work mountable in respite, care and medical facilities performed by Jon Bonaventura and Emily Lowe with Evie Clayton (Dramaturg) and Samantha Martin (Creative Producer).
The Metamorphosis – An adaptation of Kafka’s novella and the music of Philip Glass performed by Roya the Destroya, Robbie Curtis, Matt Wilson, and Meredith Kitchen (also Choreographer), directed by Zebastian Hunter, set and costume designer Dann Barber.
Cirque Di Solation – In the rush to return to normal, which parts of normal are worth rushing back to? A new 30-minute performance by Kylie Simpson and Amber Kaldor
A Line Crossed – A fusion of visual art and acrobatics by Jake Silvestro with collaborators Amanda Lee, Alison Plevey, Jon Bonaventura
