In this series named “Café & Circo,” Hablemos de Circo chats with specialists from circus sectors worldwide to exchange points of view about pressing issues towards the development of the circus arts in different contexts. In collaboration with CircusTalk, Café & Circo introduces these talks and interviews in English for the first time aiming to widen the reach and bridge circus communities from North to South. PhD Candidate, Writer -Mexico
Roy Gomez Cruz is a PhD Candidate in Performance Studies at Northwestern University in Chicago, U.S. His research ethnographically approaches contemporary circus communities across Canada, the United States and Mexico to examine the relationship between circus performance, artistic labor and professional identity. Currently, he is working with circus artists and collectives across national borders to create cultural platforms of collaboration and produce creative content. He also combines music creation and artistic performance with an active involvement with circus thinking, arts management and strategic communication.

Roy Gomez Cruz es candidato a doctorado en Estudios de Performance en la Northwestern University en Chicago, EE. UU. Su investigación aborda etnográficamente a las comunidades de circo contemporáneas de Canadá, Estados Unidos y México para examinar la relación entre la escena circense , el trabajo artístico y la identidad profesional. Actualmente, está trabajando con artistas y colectivos de circo nacionales e internacionales para crear plataformas culturales de colaboración y producir contenido creativo.Roy combina la creación musical y la actuación artística con laa participación activa en el pensamiento circense, la gestión artística y la comunicación estratégica.
Julia Sanchez Aja
Creative Director, Circus Artist -Mexico
Julia Sánchez is a circus performer and creative director based in México. She graduated from the Academie Fratellini in Paris specializing in cloud swing and dance trapeze. Her artistic work explores the principles of physics as applied to circus performance and movement. She has toured the world as a performer and also holds studies in cultural management and international cultural relationships. Julia is co-founder of CEDADIRC A. C. and also a production coordinator for arts festivals in Mexico. Her most recent work is entitled, “Dialogs Between Circus and Science” in which she experiments with creative processes through an investigation of the physics involved in cloud swing performance.

Julia Sánchez Aja es artista de circo y directora creativa con sede en México. Se graduó de la Academia Fratellini en París especializandose en cuerda volante y trapecio con giro. Su trabajo artístico explora los principios de la física aplicados a la escena circense y al movimiento. Como intérprete ha recorido el mundo y tiene estudios en gestión cultural y relaciones culturales internacionales. Julia es cofundadora de CEDADIRC A. C. y también coordinadora de producción para festivales en México. Su trabajo más reciente se titula "Diálogos entre el circo y la ciencia" en el que experimenta con procesos creativos a través de una investigación de los conceptos de la física en la cuerda volante.
