Celebrating Black Artists in the American Circus: Zanda “Zeke” Charles

The creative brainchild of performer-documentarian Veronica Blair, The Uncle Junior Project is a digital storytelling exhibition that showcases the lives, careers, and contributions of African-American artists throughout circus history and in the present day. This Black History month, we are thrilled to help spread the project’s word by sharing with you some of their latest exhibits. This week’s featured artist is  Zanda “Zeke” Charles.

Zanda “Zeke” Charles, affectionately known as Sidekick Zeke, is a Little person currently working with UniverSoul Circus—America’s only African-American-owned and operated circus, now in its 29th year.  A long-time member of their ensemble, Charles has made a big name for himself as the show’s star attraction. He is certainly an inspiration to Little People everywhere. His time with UniverSoul has helped him make a lasting impact, promoting cultural understanding and fostering communities around the country. With every show that he puts on, Zanda brings joy and laughter to those who watch his unique, captivating performance.
