What Scientists Have to Say About Juggling–By Thom Wall-a Review

There is an art and science to juggling. Thom Wall demonstrates the art of juggling in his vaudeville juggling performances all over the world. Through his extensive research on the techniques of Gentleman juggling– specifically on mouth stick balancing, he has become one of the best in that field of juggling. He obviously enjoys research because now he has released an ebook on the science of juggling. “What Scientists Have to Say About Juggling” is a welcome resource for circus educators and others interested in the tangible benefits of juggling.

The book is well put together, cites all references and is a one-stop resource for scientific studies. Topics and chapter headings include; the Physiological Benefits of Juggling, Juggling and Anxiety, Juggling and Mental Rotation, Juggling as Active Meditation and Juggling and Sleep. And there’s more. All of it is detailed and well-explained. As a juggling coach, I knew about the growth of grey matter in brains as a benefit of learning to juggle, but I learned in this book about the growth of white matter, too. Both casual readers and serious students will be entertained and educated in this work.

Wall is a well-educated man and it shows in this very professional offering. “What Scientists Have to Say about Juggling” sets the standard for future work in circademics. As a point of transparency- I have coached Wall as a young juggler and I am close friends with him. The value of this book is straightforward and my review is independent of these facts. Grant writers and social circus will use this book to their benefit. It is a terrific resource.

You can get the PDF of this book for free by joining Wall’s mailing list. You will be added to the list to learn about other big projects Thom is working on. Speaking of that- there is also a history of juggling book in the works by Wall. Based on the high degree of research and professionalism demonstrated in this short ebook I predict that much longer book will become the textbook on the subject.
