The mayor of Newham has strongly denied claims that Stratford Circus Arts Centre is at risk of closure, accusing the charity running it of being “self-interested”.
Stratford Arts Trust, which runs the multi-arts venue, said that council plans to repurpose the building as a youth hub are putting the centre at risk of closure.
According to the trust, Newham’s mayor Rokhsana Fiaz has said she will serve the charity its notice to quit the building by early next month in order for it to become a “flagship arts youth hub”, where young people would have access to a range of cultural activities.
