After dazzling its audience within the hallowed halls of St Jax Montreal (1439 St-Catherine Street West), at the premiere of Le Monastère’s Circus-Cabaret this last February, the Montreal circus troupe will return with brand new performances on April 25 and 26.
Le Monastère has not strayed from its vision: to feature a fresh crop of artists, cherry-picked from amongst the greatest talent the world has to offer, at each of its intimate and immersive productions. Ever since premiering its brand new space, praise for the troupe has poured in from as far afield as Russia, and number of artists have volunteered their own creations. One of the reasons for this surge in international interest is, of course, the Gothic Revival church inaugurated in 1864; St Jax Montreal being a spectacular setting all on its own.
For this upcoming cabaret, Le Monastère has extended the invitation for Quebec-based troupes with a worldwide following to stage their creations. Attendees should prepare to bask in the avowed silliness of Throw 2 Catch’s MCs, whose stylings and ZKRUV LOS — Velkome to Kouglistan show were featured in the 2017 edition of Montreal’s Complètement Cirque Festival. Also yours to discover are Antoine Carabinier-Lépine, founder of Cirque Alfonse, in a breathtaking perch duo with fellow troupe members Jean-Philippe Cuerrier; as well as Annie-Kim Déry, with her seven years of aerial hoop and pairs roller skating at Daniele Finzi Pasca Circus, both of whom will bring their rawest performances to Le Monastère’s setting. Also returning to the spotlight is Nadine Louis, one of Cirque du Soleil’s first contortionists, whose career began at the age of 12 and saw her receive a number of accolades such as the Silver Crane of China’s Wuhanen Circus Festival and Monte Carlo’s Golden Clown, as well as the gold medal at the 13th edition of Paris’s Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain…
