“Circus Cities” is a new CircusTalk Original Video Series by “Think Like an Acrobat” host Shenea Stiletto. In each episode, Shenea will explore a city with a vibrant circus community by sitting down with artists and service providers who reside there. The conversations will range from basics to specifics, from job opportunities and training space to living opportunities and conditions, including visas and work permits. This series is designed to equip you with everything you need to know about these cities, so you can see what’s out there and feel confident in your decision to permanently or temporarily relocate…or not! Circus bodies, as performing bodies, are important producers of culture and vital elements of the artistic process. They supply us with new knowledge by shifting perceptions and pushing against norms. The series, Circus Bodies, curated by Madeline Hoak, will explore and invite conversation about aging, fat, gendered, disabled and BIPOC/BAME circus bodies. It will also cover sideshow circus bodies and artists who use their body for extreme circus acts. Madeline Hoak is a NYC based performer, producer, professor, and choreographer specializing in aerial, acrobatics, dance and movement direction.
