“Circus Cities” is a new CircusTalk Original Video Series by “Think Like an Acrobat” host Shenea Stiletto. In each episode, Shenea will explore a city with a vibrant circus community by sitting down with artists and service providers who reside there. The conversations will range from basics to specifics, from job opportunities and training space to living opportunities and conditions, including visas and work permits. This series is designed to equip you with everything you need to know about these cities, so you can see what’s out there and feel confident in your decision to permanently or temporarily relocate…or not! The first four episodes will cover Las Vegas, Montreal, Berlin, and Dubai. What other cities do you want to see on the list?

In this CircusTalk Original Series, Martin Frenette talks to artists and explores the areas or external and self-inflicted pressures and offers solution to manage the stress. “Off Stage” is a 3-part, written series for the circus performer pursuing interests outside of the performing arts, or “off stage.” Our host and author for the series is performer, choreographer, and writer,Elena Suárez Pariente. The series presents three interviews between Elena and her guests as they offer personal stories and advice on pursuing parallel passions to circus performance. The topics here include pursuing a degree, starting and running a business, and turning a hobby into a lucrative side job.

Janelle Peters (she/they) is a contortionist, aerialist, circus coach, and licensed therapist who specializes in working with dancers, athletes, artists and performers. 360 Degrees: Circus Through a Holistic Lens with Stacy Clark offers a deep dive into the three C’s: coaching, casting and career in the world of elite athletes and performers. Stacy invites an industry expert to each episode linking their key topic to holistic advice and practical tools. Stacy’s years of experience and industry work, as former Director of Casting at Cirque du Soleil, co-founder of Creative Athletic Performance, teacher at San Diego Circus Center and circus performer, has been instrumental in shaping the contemporary circus landscape. Series was launched in April 2021.

The 3 R’s, Review, Rethink, Regenerate with Matthew Jessneris a series of insightful conversation with top, leading industry professionals about reviewing policies, rethinking paradigms and regenerating the performing arts industry. Matthew’s decades of experience in the performing arts and the circus world, in particular, his visionary approach and his provocative questions allow the viewer to partake in the discourse around production, performance and growth in the circus sector. Matthew Jessner was resident artistic director of Cirque du Soleil’s show Saltimbanco before moving to the creative production and operating side of the sector with Dragone.

ARTISTIC CREATION * RECOMMENDED FOR TALENT SEEKERS AND PERFORMERS

Circus bodies, as performing bodies, are important producers of culture and vital elements of the artistic process. They supply us with new knowledge by shifting perceptions and pushing against norms. The series, Circus Bodies, curated by Madeline Hoak, will explore and invite conversation about aging, fat, gendered, disabled and BIPOC/BAME circus bodies. It will also cover sideshow circus bodies and artists who use their body for extreme circus acts. Madeline Hoak is a NYC based performer, producer, professor, and choreographer specializing in aerial, acrobatics, dance and movement direction.

Series was launched in February 2021

HANDS ON BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE * RECOMMENDED FOR PERFORMERS

Think Like an Acrobat with Shenea Stiletto focuses on the practical aspects of the performing arts profession. Shenea provides advice for performers and shares insights about topics that are often considered taboo or just rarely talked about openly. Shenea shares her expertise as a career circus performer as well secrets from her guests about the circus business.

Shenea Stiletto is a two-time World Acrobatic Champion, USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame Member, a World-Class Handbalancer and a seasoned PRO in the circus industry.
