Sexual Violence: Circus As a Tool For Reconstruction

The AFD (Agence Française de Développement) recently released a video about a new project they support called CAMELEON, where they help young victims recover from sexual abuse by teaching circus skills. According to the AFD, “In the Philippines, one in five children (is)reported to have experienced sexual violence, according to the Council on the Welfare of Children. Most of these abuses take place at home or in the community. In 1997, a French woman named Laurence Ligier opened CAMELEON, an extraordinary centre in Passi City, in the Western Visayas region, to give a chance to these young survivors of abuse to recover from the trauma and rebuild themselves. AFD has been supporting CAMELEON since 2017.”
