Spring Buzz – The Latest From CircusTalk

As Northern Hemisphere people watch May flowers bloom, we here on the CircusTalk staff are watching our community and collaborators flourish this season! Our CEO, Stacy Clark, brings us the latest company news this spring.

Spring has sprung, and the industry is buzzing! Circus school soon-to-be graduates are showing the results of their hard work, festivals are showcasing top talents, and circus shows of all kinds are really, truly back.

This winter, we were busy not only enjoying circus festivals like the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain (check out our article about CircusTalk Spotlight Award recipients La Tangent du Bras Tendu!) and VIVA Fest; our stellar intern Grace also attended the 2023 Circus Ring of Fame award ceremony in Florida. Grace interviewed several prominent circus performers, and wrote this piece saluting artist Wellington Lima, the very first recipient of the CircusTalk Members’ Voice Award.

Personally, I enjoyed a great chat about all things casting (including, of course, CircusTalk) with podcast host Guilhem Cauchois in this episode of Tapis Rouge!. I was also delighted to welcome industry professionals Mike Riceand Ian Jenkins to our Pro Talk series. Don’t miss our next Pro Talk with Dan Bolton, owner and director of Dan Bolton Creative Management Agency and founder of ECHO, a new holding company in Dubai, UAE. Dan joins me on May 19 at 12:00 pm EST. You can register here!

On the Pro Content front, we launched Lab Sessions—heads-on skills and knowledge for creatives by creatives—and have bundled tons of great resource material into the Career Lab section of the website. You’ll find consultants, books we recommend, archived Pro Talks, and a curated list of festivals.

More great content includes Martin Frenette’s new series “Beyond Smiles and Splits,” quarterly book reviews by Morgan Anderson, and of course, performance reviews, interviews, and artist Spotlights, as well as news from all over the world!

Our collaborations are just as rich and diverse as our content: we are committed to sharing the work of Caravan International Youth And Social Circus Network and Esta Pasando, and are pleased to feature a Theatre Art Life article every week. We also began a new collaboration with an exciting online magazine, Gahsp Media, a source for free and purposeful conversations with artists and creators, designed to encourage authentic and transparent dialogues in the arts and beyond. Our first interview was with the group Act 4 Climate where we talked about sustainability and much more.

And be sure to also check out the Circus International Film Festival, Yes Ma’am, Young Stage, San Diego Circus Festival, Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance Festival, and Lone Star Circus— all organizations that CircusTalk is happy to collaborate with!

We’re bringing you more job listings and career development content than ever, and to support your upgrade to a PRO membership, we’ve also added a 6-month membership option to better accommodate artists’ job search cycles. Not yet PRO?  Sign up today and ignite your career. Be sure to use promo code “TRYPRONOW” to get one month free.

After a beta run, our PRO Casting membership is officially launched. Specially crafted for Talent Seekers, this membership level features all the benefits of PRO Talent plus enhanced search capabilities in the Talent, Acts, and Shows database, access to a personal dashboard with talent organization tools (customized search sets, tags, messaging, notes on talent profiles) and more!

Schools and organizations recognize the value of a PRO membership as a tool to provide artists insight into the industry and job opportunities. We’re thrilled to offer members of organizations such as the ACA and AYCO/ACE discounted access to PRO, as well as a special admission package for circus schools.

As always, the team at CircusTalk wishes you a healthy and abundant spring.
