The city of Medellín, in Colombia is celebrating the 10th anniversary of their circus festival, and the Municipal Authorities made the event free for everyone to attend from November 13-15.
The Secretary of City Culture Office , Álvaro Narváez, emphasized that the Circus Festival of Medellín is an opportunity for the arts sector to strengthen itself economically and provide joy and hope to citizens.
“It’s been the 10th year that we have been celebrating circus in our city. The event takes place at various locations with circus tents erected all around the city, accompanied with photo exhibitions, and talks with artists, which all contribute to the economic reactivation, ”said the Mayor’s Office of Medellín. The weekend program features 80 performances by 21 circus groups.
The director of Circo Fantasía, Yilda Valencia, stated, “the circus is a magnet, a magical world, a magnet that attracts young and old alike and provides joy, fun, and entertainment. It is a place where the magic happens.”
The Festival is part of a stimulus package for arts and culture, initiated by the Mayor’s Office of Medellín, in which local circuses are granted a total of 130 million pesos.
