International Physical Theatre Workshop and IUGTE Conference 12 - 20 December, 2019 Laubegg Castle - Ragnitz, Austria APPLY ONLINE The workshop is open to performers from different backgrounds, creative genres and techniques inspired by physical theatre as a bold, vibrant and multidimensional approach to contemporary theatre performance. The program is designed as a multidisciplinary lab for experienced actors, dancers, physical performers, contemporary circus performers, choreographers and directors -performing arts practitioners with professional stage experience working in various genres, techniques and styles - interested in expanding their practical skills, develop international network opportunities and collaborators. The program includes an intensive practical training, lectures and discussions with the theatre director and teacher Sergei Ostrenko and the program of IUGTE annual International Conference with performing arts teachers from different countries. OSTRENKO WORKSHOP PROGRAM The workshop program is focused on Ostrenko brothers approach of actor’s training, relying on the Russian Theatre Tradition, as well as the newest experiments in performing arts. The main focus of the program is to explore physicality in performance through the methods of: K. Stanislavsky "Physical Action", M. Chekhov "Psychological Gesture", Meyerhold's "Theatre Biomechanics"; Training by the method of improvisation; Scene composition from an exercise to a performance piece. These are some of the elements uniquely transformed and combined in Ostrenko's teaching system to suit the needs of contemporary performers, directors and teachers. Participants will practically explore performer's physicality as the principal creative instrument, the key to form and style an atmosphere and emotional palette in contemporary performance, stepping beyond the limits of normative text-based acting. Practical sessions develop in the form of various exercises which progress from simple to compound. Participants gradually proceed from solo to group improvisations and structures. Every day sets a spectrum of advanced creative tasks, developing the preceding steps. Through the system of consecutive exercises, the group establishes a common language and trust, an ability to collaborate and create together. CONFERENCE PROGRAM Program includes practical workshops, works in progress, performances, lectures and interactive talks with performing arts teachers from all around the world.
