WheelFest - Circus Events - CircusTalk

The 2020 Wheel Gymnastics World Championships and WheelFest  have been postponed.
Official statement from the International Wheel Federation below and can be seen on their website here:

"Dear wheel gymnasts,

The coronavirus is keeping the world in suspense. People are living in lockdown, training facilities are closed and countries have issued travel bans.

We thought we could wait until the end of April to make a decision about the World Championships due to take place in New Jersey in July this year. As it turns out, with the virus progressing so fast and the situation changing by the hour, we do not have time to wait – we need to act now.

In close co-operation with the local organisers in the US, and with great sadness, we have made a joint decision to postpone the championships until summer 2021.

We know that this will be difficult for all of you who have already booked flights, registered for accommodation and made plans to travel to the US, to support the athletes in New Jersey. However, the health and safety of all participants is our highest priority, and given the current global pandemic, this was the only “right” decision we could make.

Our decision to postpone the World Championships will not affect our plans for the Team World Championships in May next year in Leipzig, Germany. This means that 2021 will be an exciting year with two major IRV events."

Back for the third time by popular demand, WheelFest takes place during the same week as the 2020 Wheel Gymnastics World Championships, with a variety of social events, competitions, field trips, and classes. Designed for minimal overlap, this is a week with maximum Wheel, circus, and gymnastic fun in mind. All ages and skill levels welcome!

Below is a summary of events. Please visit our main registration page HERE for full details

Specialized Wheel Gymnastics Workshops
WheelFest is offering a series of specialized workshops for advanced athletes and coaches: Spiral technique, advanced knee-hang combinations, advanced vaulting (working towards a full twist), How to build a music routine, etc.

Participants can join as athletes or coaches but should have basic knowledge of the topic. For example, the “Spiral technique” workshop is not for you if you have never tried or coached spiral before. Workshops will be lead by experts in international competitive Wheel Gymnastics and will be held in English.

Circus Arts Workshops
We will have a number of workshops in a variety of disciplines to offer: Aerial Silks, Partner Acrobatics (Acro Yoga), Stilt Walking, as well as Special Needs workshops for these disciplines. Treat yourself to a new experience, make friends and have lots of fun.

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Boat Tour
(Monday, July 13, 12 pm – 4 pm)

Join us before the start of the World Championships for a boat ride and experience the rich history of the two attractions. A walking group leaves from Lobby of the dormitory at 12pm (noon), (3 mi/5 km from campus - walk or take a ~$10 taxi ride). You have to be at the security screening facility at 1pm sharp.

Private/Semi-private lessons
If you are interested in a private lesson with a World Champions, Circus professional or world-class coach, email us at [email protected] to book your time slot. Limited availability. First come first served. Reduced rate for WheelFest Pass holders.

The list of available coaches is still very preliminary and will be updated as we get closer to the event:

Wheel Gymnastics (male/female; age groups: 9-12, 12-15, 15-18, 18-40, 40+; straight line only, 18+ can chose to do a music routine).

Cyr Wheel Open Gym
We have reserved the gymnasium for an entire afternoon just for Cyr Wheelers to have the opportunity to spin together, make new friends and teach each other the latest tricks. The Cyr Wheel Open Gym is not a structured lesson, but a coach will be on-site to ensure safe training practices. In addition, a Beginners workshop for Cyr Wheel will be offered. The open Gym is followed by a Cyr Wheel Battle, hosted by the International Wheel Gymnastics Federation. Stay tuned for more info to come soon.
