Since its founding in 1994, Cambodian social circus Phare Ponleu Selpak has made good on its mission to preserve Cambodia’s performing arts culture by bringing it to people in need of a boost. Among the nation’s vulnerable, poverty-stricken children are often relegated to working in rice fields from an early age… but some, instead, decide to walk another career path. Phare Ponleu leads these kids from the classrooms of their vocational circus school in Battambang to Phare Circus, the organization’s touring wing. In this video, Phare Circus acrobat Khon Lidorn shares some of the highs and lows he’s faced along his circus journey.
