Spiegelworld: New YouTube Docu-Series “Circus Town” Looks Under the Big Top

Launched on YouTube and Facebook, this new docu-series from Spielgelworld exposes all the thrills and spills of a new frontier circus. A troupe of Ukrainian and Russian acrobats puts their lives into each others’ hands, a Japanese mermaid becomes a pole dancer, a real-life Circus Town gets built in the Mojave Desert—and that’s just the first episode!

Las Vegas (July 26, 2023) – A compelling new weekly docu-series has launched on YouTube and Facebook, revealing what it takes to survive and thrive in the world of contemporary circus. Circus Town lets you run away to the circus, without leaving home.

The Circus Town series is a collaboration between Spiegelworld, one of the world’s trailblazers of contemporary circus, and Australian multi-channel network Radar MCN, part of the WTFN Group. From its humble beginnings in a spiegeltent on a dilapidated pier in New York City in 2006, to phenomenal Las Vegas success, to the purchase of a Californian desert town with the dream of creating a circus utopia, Spiegelworld has always pushed the edges of the new circus frontier.

Spiegelworld’s Impresario Extraordinaire Ross Mollison said, “We have three successful long-running circus shows and an integrated restaurant business in Las Vegas, and a new show and restaurant just opened on the Atlantic City boardwalk. But the community of people who work in circus and who love circus is global. We have so many surprising stories to share and the Circus Town series is our way of bridging that gap. The phenomenal international media interest in our recent purchase of the town of Nipton, and what we plan to do there, demonstrates just how much public curiosity there is in our kind of contemporary circus.”

Radar MCN General Manager Derek Dyson said it’s a ground-breaking project for the business which already has over 6 million subscribers and over 100 million monthly views across its digital channel network.

“Launching a successful digital channel relies on a few key elements. A popular niche, access to content you can’t find anywhere else and genuinely entertaining stories.” Dyson said. “The partnership with Spiegelworld delivers this in spades. This is high-quality, non-scripted, long-form content created by people who are passionate about what they are doing. Fans of circus are going to love being taken behind the scenes.”

The first episode of Circus Town follows a troupe of Ukrainian and Russian acrobats in Las Vegas who have developed a special trust in each other to create a dangerous new banquine act, and a Japanese mermaid who pivots her career to become a pole dancer. In the upcoming second episode, viewers will meet an acrobat who forms a unique bond with a very talented chihuahua and get taken on a private tour of the desert town of Nipton by its eccentric long-time resident and unofficial Mayor.

Ross Mollison added, “While Nipton is our physical Circus Town, this series encompasses all aspects of Spiegelworld and the broader global circus community we interact with. It’s about all the people who make up a modern circus community – our metaphorical Circus Town.”
