Soon to Be Released: Reading Circus, A Documentary About Artistic Feedback
Zirkus Wissenschaft is at is again, creating sleek and practical multi-media materials for the circus practitioner, and this time they are giving you a little taste of what is to come. On October 7th, the full documentary titled  Reading Circus will be available for public viewing. Until then, let’s check in with Dr. Franziska Trapp about her motivation for making this documentary and enjoy the promising trailer they recently released.
The video format allows everyone to take a first glimpse into how and why the reading of work-in-progress performances can be used as a feedback method in artistic creation processes. It’s a documentary made during one week of residency. Thus, you are actually able to see how we worked and follow the whole process.Furthermore, the video-format is an explicit reference to the DASARTS-Feedback, a method for cross-disciplinary artistic practice developed at the University of Amsterdam, that we used and further developed in order to allow a more profound feedback on how and in what relation to society the contemporary circus performance under discussion functions – or not.
Who is this documentary for?
The documentary is made for artists, dramaturges, directors, residency-locations, circus teachers, circus schools – or in short: everyone who is searching for a methodology that supports artistic choices and makes them more conscious. Meanwhile the documentary gives a general overview, there is the possibility to book workshops for circus teachers, students or artists-in-residency in order to deepen the knowledge about how to use the reading of circus as a feedback-method.
