New IETM Publication Explores Climate Justice Through the Lens of Performing Arts

IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts) unveils a significant publication shedding light on the vital concept of climate change. This exploration within the performing arts sector delves into shifts in behavior and practices, advocating for collective responsibility in mitigating the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions.

Central to IETM’s endeavor is the development of the concept of Climate Justice, aligning with its intersectional approach. This approach underscores that a sustainable, environmentally conscious transition cannot be realized without addressing societal inequalities, particularly within the performing arts sphere.

The recently released publication reflects an extensive study encompassing diverse aspects of climate justice. Drawing from a wide array of literature and examples across various contexts, this research emanates from a comprehensive peer-to-peer consultation on a global scale. The study incorporates insights and discussions gathered from three regional focus groups conducted throughout 2023, spanning Southern Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

Through this in-depth examination, the publication captures nuanced perspectives on climate justice, providing an overview of existing practices while highlighting the imperative to address social disparities in tandem with environmental concerns. It serves as a comprehensive resource, offering a multifaceted view of the critical intersection between climate justice and the performing arts.
